All of the seventh and eighth grade students participated in the SIJ Junior High Science Fair on January 18th. Students have practiced their skills as they have researched, written about, experimented, designed, analyzed, and communicated a great variety of interesting topics. Mrs. Burlinski spoke with students after Mass on Friday and told them she remembered visiting their Language Arts classes back in October where they were beginning to assemble all of their note cards in preparation for their research papers. Many were feeling as if they could never produce the finished project, but each and every student did their best work. This is incredible preparation for the academic work that lies in front of them. Areas of study included Aeronautics, Behavioral Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Earth Science, Electronics, Health Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology, and Physics. All students put forth wonderful effort in this academic event. Students scoring the highest at the SIJ Science Fair will advance to the Regional Fair at the University of St. Francis in March. Eighth grade students representing SIJ are Caroline C., Jackie L., Grace R., Viktoria S., Michaela M., Sarah G., Penelope G., Speros G., Brian W., Andrew K., Kelly N., Mia Y., and Lindsey D. Seventh grade students earning a position at the Regional Fair are Emma G., Maddie M., Mallory M., Caroline K., Heather W., Elyssa C., Baileigh R., Madelyn P., Shannon S., Elle T., Raphael A., Gabija S., Mallory T., Dominic K., and Jack J. Whether students move on to the regional or state level, knowing they saw a project from start to finish over a 5 month period of time is truly a sense of accomplishment. We are extremely proud of all of our young scientists!
A huge thank you to Mrs. Annamarie Boyle for her continual guidance as their Science teacher, and to both Ms. Molly Halligan and Mrs. Karen Latto for their expertise in the writing of the research papers. We are also grateful to all of our judges who gave up their time on Thursday morning to evaluate each project.
