For the month of January, our PK4 classes have been exploring space. During math, they learned a rocket finger-play to help them count down to blast off. At the sensory center, they made their own moon sand. In the dramatic play area, they painted a rocket ship and imagined they were going to the Space Station. In science, the students learned about the solar system and all the different planets. During art, they created the Northern Lights with pastel chalk.
The January theme for our PK3 class is snow! After listening to The Mitten by Jan Brett, the students acted out the story by crawling in a gigantic mitten. After introducing Jolly Phonics, they played a phonetic game by putting animals in their own mittens. In art, after listening to the story Snowflake Bentley, the class made glitter snowflakes. In keeping with the snow theme, during music, the classed created a beautiful snowflake dance. And, of course, everyone enjoyed the cotton snowball fight.
