St. Isaac’s Student Council is proud to be a member of the Illinois Association of Junior High Student Councils (IAJHSC). For over twenty-one years, our council has earned the designation of Honor Council. It is awarded to those councils who show exemplary participation in the areas of student leadership, service, and responsibility. St. Isaac’s council members demonstrate the ideals promoted by IAJHSC simply by following the teachings of the Church. We are dedicated to being leaders who bring Christ’s light to the world. All grade levels are represented by our council members. Grades 6-8 are voting members, and Eighth grade students are elected to serve on the Executive Board. Our representatives are elected from grades 6-8 and serve as not only their homeroom representatives, but also as liaisons to Kindergarten through fifth grades.
Our council meets on Wednesday mornings at 7:00 a.m. and in special sessions when planning activities for Catholic Schools Week or service projects. We learn and operated under Roberts Rules of Order. Some of our favorite activities include dances, Deck the Halls (where we spread Christmas cheer), dodge-ball tournaments, and the organizing body for Move Your Feet (our diocesan program to provide scholarships to students attending Catholic schools in the Diocese of Joliet.) Our President and Vice-President meet often with the school’s administration and our board members provide a conduit for student communication.
Student Council is a strong and consistent presence at St. Isaac Jogues School. We are proud of our legacies. Many of our students go on to serve in student government at both the high school and college levels.
At St. Isaac Jogues School, our Student Council plays a vital role in shaping the school community. As student leaders, council members are held to high standards, guided by Christian principles that reflect our commitment to service, responsibility, and citizenship. Please continue reading to learn about the core standards that every Student Council member is expected to uphold.
Leadership is more than just a role—it's a promise to serve the school community with dedication and integrity. As a Student Council member, you are entrusted with responsibilities that require consistent effort and follow-through. Leadership means being accountable for your actions and ensuring that the commitments you made during your campaign are fulfilled. **Demonstrate reliability, perseverance, and a strong work ethic** as you carry out your duties.
As a student leader, you set the example for others. Your actions and words influence how fellow students treat one another and contribute to the overall school climate. Christian citizenship involves respecting others, promoting unity, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment. **Lead by example**—be kind, considerate, and thoughtful in all your interactions. Always strive to reflect the values of honesty, respect, and fairness.
True leadership is rooted in service to others. As a Student Council member, your role is to serve your peers, staff, and school with humility and compassion. Christian service is about giving of yourself to help others, whether through organizing events, supporting your classmates, or volunteering your time for the greater good. **Remember, it is in giving that you receive.** Serve others with a generous heart and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around you.
These principles should be at the heart of every decision you make. Whether you're planning school events, working with teachers and staff, or simply interacting with fellow students, these values will guide you to make a positive impact.
Let these lights shine brightly as you fulfill your role as a leader, setting a powerful example for others to follow.
