Dear St. Isaac's Families,
Happy New Year and good wishes and many blessings for 2020 and the new decade! I hope this note finds you refreshed after the Christmas holiday and ready to welcome the challenges of a January winter in Chicago. In January we celebrate not only St. Isaac's but Catholic education throughout the country. We will also begin planning for the 2020-2021 school year. Thanks to all who have registered your preschool, kindergarten, and transfer students for Fall 2020. If your family will not be returning to St. Isaac's for next year, please notify the school office. The more accurate my numbers are, the better I can plan for our academic needs as well as meeting the school's financial obligations. At this moment, we have room in all of our grades, K-8, but are closed with a waiting list for morning (M/W/F) preschool for 3's and morning and full day for 4's. There continues to be room in T/TH morning classes and afternoon classes for 3's.
As we approach Catholic Schools Week, I hope to see all of you at the 9:00 mass on Sunday which is our family school mass, followed by our Open House. The school will be open on Sunday from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Please visit your child's/children's classroom and view some of the work they have completed. Don't forget to stop down in East Hall where Cadence will be performing and view the displays of all of our students' work in STEM and Art. All of us here at SIJ welcome the opportunity to showcase our school and the work of our students.
Speaking of student work, I hope many of you will visit Mrs. Boyle's Science room on Sunday where our junior high Science projects will be on display. This has been a major accomplishment for all of our students. This is incredible preparation for the academic work that lies ahead for them. They begin to learn a little bit about their individual work habits: some preferred working alone, others chose to work with a partner, and all realized the importance of time management. They chose the topic, collected data, drew conclusions, and used research to guide their decision making. I am very proud of the work each student produced. Whether they move on to the regional or state level, knowing they saw a project from start to finish over a 5 month period of time truly provides a sense of accomplishment. A huge thank you to Mrs. Annamarie Boyle for her continual guidance as their Science teacher, and to both Ms. Caitlin Kielty and Mrs. Karen Latto for their expertise in the writing of the research paper. I am also grateful to all of our judges who gave up their time on Thursday morning to evaluate each project. More to come on the Science Fair as we move to the regional and state competitions.
Thank you so much for your quick adherence to our new morning drop off procedures. Honestly, it ran and continues to run very smoothly. The Hinsdale police actually commented how impressed they were with how quickly everyone adjusted to the new procedure. Thank you again.
Our children completed the second round of MAP testing this week. Scores will be sent home on Friday, February 7th. Please remember we are looking for growth and progress. This data is extremely important as we look to design our instruction and provide programs that will result in forward progress for all students.
We are looking forward to a successful auction, “Leap into Auction" on Saturday, February 29th. It is an exciting time for all of us at St. Isaac's as we plan for the future by looking into facility improvements that match our academic offerings. Since the original building was constructed in 1932, we have a number of life safety issues that need to be upgraded including ventilation, plumbing, electrical, infrastructure for technology, etc. The auction committee, chaired by Mrs. Melissa Kinzler, Mrs. Megan Malloy, and Mrs. Kathleen Devine, has been working for over a year to bring you an evening filled with fun and friendship with our eye on improvements that will benefit our children. A huge thank you to the auction chairs and all of the committee chairs as we await the big event!
Here is to a wonderful 2020!
