St. Isaac Jogues School was very well represented at the Region 11 Science Fair on March 10th at the University of St. Francis in Joliet. Twenty-seven SIJ 7th and 8th grade students competed with hundreds of peers from surrounding counties. Using application and the understanding of the scientific method and research techniques, SIJ young scientists presented original experimentation in the areas of biochemistry, behavioral science, chemistry, physics, environmental science, thermodynamics, and alternative energies. Students experienced presenting their science projects in university classrooms and assembly hall settings. It was a wonderful experience for all. Students representing SIJ at the Regional Science Fair included: Penelope G., Michaela M., Isabella S., Olivia P., Ella H., Katie D., Elizabeth D., Nicolette D., Amaryah C., and John D.
The 2017 Illinois State Science Fair brought together 1,500 of some of the brightest and most talented young minds in the state. 7th -12th graders explored topics from Astronomy to Zoology with impressive laboratory research and experimentation. SIJ students scored extraordinarily well and represented our school with poise, elegance and excellence. Students participating in the Project Session included: Sophie A., Isabelle C., Gabrielle C., Mary Cate F., Renee G., Peyton F., Aaron J., Conor R., Christian G., and Nicky O. Students participating in the Paper Session included: Caroline C., Sarah G., Grace R., Viktoria S., Speros G., Brian W., and Mia Y. In addition to the traditional awards, two very special prizes were presented to our students. These awards highlight how the English/Language Arts curriculum and the Science curriculum collaborate in order to benefit all students. Mia Y. earned the distinction of Paper in Top 10 Best Papers of Entire Fair (out of over 600 papers) and Caroline C. earned the Jay Hoffman Memorial Award for Overall Excellence. We are so proud of all of the 7th and 8th grade students who participated in the SIJ science fair earlier this year. This wonderful event allows students to further view the Wonder and Awe of God’s Creation through the understanding and exploration of science.
