SIJ Places Sixth in Science Competition
On November 12th, twenty SIJ 8th grade students participated in the 38th Annual Fenwick High School Science Competition. They represented the school extremely well by earning a 6th place finish out of 35 Chicago and suburban schools. The SIJ students prepared for this test by studying physics, chemistry, earth science and biology once a week during their lunchtime for the past eight weeks. Chris Aliaga was recognized as an individual winner with a 6th place finish, while Tim Moser and Aidan Abdo scored in the top 24 out of over 500 students. All of the students represented SIJ with academic and behavioral excellence.
Eighth Grade Students Place Second and Third in Math Contests 33rd ANNUAL NAZARETH MATH CONTEST:
On Monday, November 17th, five students from St. Isaac’s competed in the Nazareth Math Contest. The St. Isaac’s team placed SECOND in the large school division. Charlie Parse finished 3rd individually and Alexis Boundas finished 5thindividually. Congratulations to all of the participants:Alexis Boundas, Maddie Caronchi,

43rd ANNUAL FENWICK MATH CONTEST
On Saturday, November 15th, eight students from St. Isaac’s competed along with hundreds of other students from around the Chicago area. St. Isaac’s came in THIRD out of 23 schools in the small school division with Charlie Parse finishing 7th. Tim Moser and Alexis Boundas finishing 8th individually. SIJ is proud to announce that the Junior High essay winners of the Captain Hubbard Burrows Chapter are Gabrielle Sullivan (grade 7) and Nicolette Makris (grade 8). The subject of their essays was Ellis Island through a Child’s Eyes. While the theme of the essay is offered to students, students are expected to explore their creativity and research and writing skills to create a concise, interesting, document-based essay. Their research, writing and revision skills set them apart from all the Junior High applicants in the Hinsdale area. Both young ladies have been invited to a reception on February 21st hosted by the Chapter. Congratulations to Gabrielle and Nicolette!
Our first Enrichment class will begin Thursday, January 15. Some of the fun classes offered are Edible Art, Wonderful World of Science, Smooshy Concoctions, Glitzy or Gaudy Art, Readers Theatre, Winter Fun, and Paper Mache.
Classes will be held January 15, 22, February 5, 12, 19, 26 (replaces Jan. 9 class). Parents should pick up their children at 4:15 p.m. from the parking lot. Parents will not be allowed to park on Clay Street.
School is closed Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20. Classes resume Wednesday, January 21.
